The medical treatment permit is simply what it is called – an immigration permit for those wishing to undergo medical treatment in Hungary. The necessary proofs are obvious and require the individual to show information such as what treatment they or their dependent will undergo.

What is this permit used for?
That third country national may receive a residence permit for medical treatment, if they wish to stay in the territory of the Hungary to receive a medical treatment or are accompanying their underage child or family member being unable to take care of themselves to the territory of Hungary for medical treatment.
Do you meet the criteria?
The medical treatment as a residence purpose can be certified with the following documents:
- An official document about the medical treatment received, issued by the providing medical institution,
- In case of an accompanying family member, with a certificate of the family relationship.
Do you have the following?
- Sufficient funds for duration of stay either through
- Own work activity (or reliable source of revenue).
- Bank account balance.
- Sufficient income from abroad.
- Sponsorship of the Hungarian citizen family member.
- Sufficient accommodation by establishing a Hungarian residential address (rental agreement, statement from owner entitling to stay free of charge, proof the applicant himself/herself owns residential property in Hungary)

The resident permit holder is eligible for entering and staying in the territory of the Schengen Member States without a visa for a period not exceeding 90 days within 180 days. The time of the stay allowed by the residence permit is defined in a way that the passport has to be valid for at least three months longer than the residence permit.
Validity
The validity of a residence permit for medical treatment is expiring when the medical treatment is finished, but after maximum two years but it may be, on occasions, extended for a period as long as the medical treatment, but for maximum 2 years.

The decision on residence permit will be made by the regional directorate within 21 days. (Should there be no further documents required)
