You can obtain an EU Blue Card through Hungary.
The EU Blue Card – EU Residence Card (based on Advanced Skills)
For those having established employment relationship for a role requiring advanced/special skills and wanting a more permanent residence in the EU, there is an option nicknamed the EU Blue Card. In essence, a non-Hungarian who has already obtained his or her advanced skills work permit, and meets certain other requirements, is able to stay for between one (1) and four (4) years on the same EU Blue Card. It is a much more permanent upgrade to the advanced skills work permit for Hungary.
Put another way, the EU Blue Card is a permit which entitles its owner, who has an advanced skills work permit, to reside in the territory of any of the EU Member States (Hungary included).
Do I qualify for an EU Blue Card?
In simple terms, without having already been granted the advanced skills work permit, you will not qualify. That said, you would also need to have been in Hungary for over a year.
How does the process work?
The process involves entering Hungary and then within six (6) months to establish an employment relationship with any specific employer and obtaining the advanced skills work permit, thereafter staying and working in Hungary for 18 months and then applying for the EU Blue Card.
What are the timeframes?
As mentioned, the EU Blue Card is valid for up to four (4) years and is processed within 90 days, in frames of a Single Application Procedure. One must have worked in Hungary for 18 months already on an advanced skills work permit.
Process
Applications must be accompanied and done in person – we can assist and accompany you in this process, however. The entire process can be done within Hungary, should you be submitting the application within the country. Generally, it does not take longer than 90 days to process.
Please note that the EU Blue Card only entitles, for two years as of its issuance, for taking highly qualified employment under the employment relationship establishing its issuance or for employment permitted by virtue of domestic employment policy interest.
