If you are considering the idea of permanently relocating to Hungary with your family, you might have wondered what the country’s educational standards are and how you can enroll your children in Hungarian schools. In this post, we will be taking a quick look at education in Hungary, how it measures up to Western schools, and how we can help you cross the cultural bridge.
What kind of education in Hungary is best for expat children?
Hungary’s public schools do not follow Western curricula, which means that if you would like to stick to the processes of your home country, it would be wise to enroll your children in one of Hungary’s private international schools.
Where can we find English education in Hungary?

How difficult is it to secure a spot in Hungarian schools?
The good news is that there is virtually no competition for spots in Hungarian schools. All you have to do is fill out an enrollment application and you are done.
The same rule applies for preschools. Since there are so many preschools in Hungary, enrolling your children is very easy and you can choose to place them in the English, German or French international schools if they do not understand the Hungarian language.
Can our children use the school bus to get to and from school?
Unfortunately, Hungary doesn’t have the school bus system for their public schools, but the private schools do have transport options on offer.
