What is this permit used for?
Those whom are family members of Hungarian citizens and wish to live in Hungary, accompanying or joining the Hungarian citizen.
Do you meet the criteria?
Are you one of the following? (Persons whom this form of residence is used for)
- Spouse
- Descendant of a Hungarian citizen or his/her spouse (under age of 21 if not personally a descendant. If a direct descendant, age is irrelevant.)
- Ascendant (parent, grandparent) of Hungarian citizen or his/her spouse.
- Persons having been granted custody over a Hungarian citizen minor. (Under the age of 18)
- Third country national registered life partner of a Hungarian citizen.
- Third country citizen having been co-inhabited with a Hungarian citizen in the same household for over a year. (One calendar year)
- Persons whom are personally and financially dependent on a Hungarian citizen or, someone being taken care of by a Hungarian citizen due to severe health reasons in the same household.
Do you have the following?
- Sufficient funds for duration of stay either through:
- Own work activity.
- Bank account balance.
- Sufficient income from abroad.
- Sponsorship of the Hungarian citizen family member.
- Sufficient accommodation by establishing a Hungarian residential address (rental agreement, statement from owner entitling to stay free of charge, proof the applicant himself/herself owns residential property in Hungary)
- Appropriate all-around health insurance coverage.
This permit allows you to: You may be gainfully employed in Hungary.
- Unrestricted entry and longer term stay (90 days within any 180 day period may be spent in Schengen countries (please note: you may not work in these Schengen countries)
- This permit does not allow you to: Work in other Schengen countries.
- Estimated time line for application for this permit? Within 70 days you will receive approval. (Possibly shorter should there be no additional requests)
